1. What is a dude ranch?
A dude ranch is a term first used to describe President Theodore Roosevelt who loved to visit the western USA. Dude ranches cater to their guests to provide a unique western experience nestled in the romance of the cowboy and horses.
2. What do you do at a dude ranch?
Horse activities are a prime focus with great food, great scenery, history, romance, adventure, relaxation a great change of pace from the hustle and bustle of city life.
3. What about my family? Families are welcome and a dude ranch vacation is a wonderful way to build family memories that will last a lifetime. Children need to be over 6 years old to ride on the trails due to insurance requirements.
4. Why Boulder Lake Lodge as my dude ranch? Boulder Lake Lodge has wonderful horses, all owned by the lodge or its management. No horses are leased as is common on some other outfits. Our location is beyond words- it truly must be seen. Many generations have and are continuing to return to relive the memories of Boulder Lake Lodge!
5. What other activities are available? Swimming, boating, hiking, bicycle riding, fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, relaxing, camp fires, wildlife watching, ranch history and exploration, brilliant star gazing and of course delicious meals and deserts. Unlimited horseback riding and horse activities.
6. What about my pet? Well behaved dogs are allowed. However, they need to kept on a leash to stay safe from the horse activities.
7. What about tipping? It is customary to tip the wranglers and staff for superior service. A 12% to 18% gratituity is usual, Boulder Lake does not pool staff tips but rather seeks to reward outstanding performance on an individual basis.
8. Does my cell phone and pager work? No. If you need to stay in touch we have a land line phone you can use as well as wireless internet is available for all guests.
9. Do you have references? Yes references are available upon request. We keep all guest information private and will never divuldge your name without your advance permission. We are members of the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce, The Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce, and the Wyoming Restaurant and Lodging Association.
10. Do you take credit cards? Yes, Mastercard and Visa are welcome.
11.What to bring? We can email you a suggested clothing list for the dates and trip you are planning. Mountain weather can be very changable so basically we suggest layers for personal comfort, a jacket, and rain gear. Jeans and casual comfortable clothes are fine. Fleece is ideal, it dries quickly and is warm.

Travel Tips:

  • Get a good night's sleep before your trip. Adjust for crossing time zones by retiring later than normal if heading west.
  • To reduce the effects of jet lag, avoid excessive amounts of alcohol, maintain a regular diet, and expose yourself to sunlight and fresh air.
  • Adequate rest will assure you are at your best after lengthy flights and time zone changes. Consider inflight exercises such as shoulder rotation, finger-toe stretch, foot flex, neck roll, ankle rotation, heel lift.
  • Dress in comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Keep essential in your carry-on bag for easy access. Pack Medications in their original containers. Get the latest at tsa.gov.
